![]() The Centre for Basic Space Science (CBSS) was established in 2001 as one of the six activity Centres of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). The Centre now has its temporary site inside the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Land for the permanent site has been acquired and fenced. It is hoped that the overall development of the permanent site will soon commence. CBSS is a major research unit of NASRDA, focusing on fundamental research in Basic Space Science, which is the root and foundation for any space faring nation. The primary aim of the Centre is to initiate and foster the growth of Basic Space Research in Nigeria in a highly coordinated manner in collaboration with NASRDA Centres, Nigerian Universities, other Educational Institutions, Government Research Institutes, and the Private sector such as NIMET, Nigerian Telecommunication, Radio & TV broadcasting. The Centre plans to embark on massive international collaboration with advanced Countries in order to ensure sound capacity building. A major assignment of the Centre is to build a strong research unit which will be capable of handling the numerous challenges of the Centre. Most of the research staff have Postgraduate degree while others are registered MSc and Ph.D researchers of the Centre’s Programmes. The Director has arranged in some cases to jointly supervise them with foreign colleagues where they are undergoing capacity building. Researchers and Consultants Apart from the core research staff, the Centre has as its priority to work with other relevant researchers and experts from various Universities and research establishments in the country, and abroad for proper coordination and capacity building. We therefore, have a long list of consultants and research associates both within and outside Nigeria. |
