The Centre for Basic Space Science (CBSS) is embarking on various Observatory Projects. These projects are as follows:

  • Optical Astronomy Project

  • To set up a 25cm optical telescope for teaching and research as well as popularization.
    CBSS and Nigerian Universities.
    Equipment purchased building near completion. Done electronics yet to be installed.

    • Solar Physics Project.

    • This Project will be used To monitor and utilize solar radiation and intensity. The project will be carrioed on in collaboration with CBSS & Nigerian Universities. Already, 2 Stations have been completed and operational. The remaining 2 are being installed. Stations presently Nsukka, Abuja, Awka, Oka.

      • Capacity Building in Radio Astronomy.

      • This is a project designed to be used in learning Instrumentation and Observational and Computing Techniques. CBSS is in collaboration with Japan MOU Signed so as to accomplish this project. As a result, 2 Researchers visited Japan in 2006 for 3 months.

        • Capacity Building in Optical Astronomy.

        • This is a project designed to be used in learning Instrumentation and Observational and Computing Techniques. CBSS is in collaboration with South Africa Mou Signed so as to accomplish this project. As a result, 2 Researchers were in South Africa last year 2006 for 3 months.

          • Capacity Building in USA.

          • This is a project designed to be used To study NECOP set up, installation and operational techniques. CBSS is in collaboration with University of Delaware, USA MOU Signed so as to accomplish this project. As a result, 2 Researchers were in South Africa last year 2006 for 3 months.

            • Capacity Building Locally.

            • the aim of this project is To improve job performance and expose staff of all categories to new managerial developments. To achieve this, CBSS is in collaboration with Nigerian Universities & other Training Institutions in Nigeria. The project benefited both the Scientific and Administrative staff of the centre
